Where do they get human embryo's for stem cell research?

I wondered where they got them. Do they produce their own? Do they get donors? Do they take them from abortion clinics? What do you think about doing this? I wondered because I feel we treat our pets better then we do our human embryo's. What male or female would be willing to be a donor for this type of research?

you can't get stem cells from a fetus, only from a 5 day old fertilized egg. so the eggs will be fertized in a lab

just like in vitro fertization, or all they have to do is get those thousands of 5 day old embryos that are resting in freezers with no purpose at all

They throw out those embryos when the parents are done with having kids.

So if you say stem cell research is wrong are you saying in vitro fertilization is wrong?

they usually get the embryos from abortion clinics that would otherwise be discarded.

as far as the morality of this practice goes, if the couple decides they dont wish to have a baby at the time, or the girl is raped, or something happens that they dont want to have the kid, its their choice to terminate the pregnancy. and as far as the value of human life goes, a woman usually has 100,000 eggs to fertalize, so its not like she just cant have another one. besides, if human life is so valuable, why do we so willingly send soldiers to iraq or afghanistan to die?

plus the arguement of when the embryo is considered "alive" my personal view is that its alive when it can survive on its own w/out anymore help needed from the mother, usually when it takes its first breath.

some of you may not agree or like my opinion, but its how i feel.
