How to make more friends?

I don't have a lot of friends and since I started university last week, I feel lonelier than ever because most of my friends (and they are not many) went off to other smaller universities. The university I'm attending now is large and it's in the heart of the city, so everyone is constantly moving and unless you already know some people, it's nearly impossible to ever stop anyone and have a conversation with them. Unlike high school where you'd have your lessons in a classroom seated with your friends, at university you suddenly find yourself in these huge lecture halls where no one knows anyone else and it's just really lonely and frustrating! I'm sorry for whining so much, but please help-- how can I make more friends? And let's not even talk about GIRLFRIENDS! I've never had a girlfriend before and given the nature of life at university, I can consider myself single forever! Any tips on that? I'd really appreciate any feedback/advice please. :]

Get a hobby like exercise and you'll meet people based off what you do.

Why don't you transfer to a smaller university?  No harm in being happier.  Most people are going to make the same amount of money in their careers no matter what school they go to.  They gloat and they are proud but, honestly, it does not make that much difference.  If you are driven to succeed you will.  It does not sound like a larger university is for you.  Do something for yourself and make the change.  Being an adult is about these types of decisions.  When you do, volunteer and get involved in no more than two clubs/activities.  It is good for your resume once you are done with college.  Blessings.   Be happy and get educated.

Well ats a fair pickle there like. If your sharin a dorm orany classes with anyone them im sure you could ask people for help and the the natural converstion will crop up.

Girlfreind. I think its because i had a realy bad first it doesnt bother me these days, but there is alot more to life than girls (no offence!!!). You have to look up in life. If you get freinds first then they will be goin to partys and stuff so you'll get to meet others there first. I'd say your only problem is pickin the right bunch to hang with. Im sure your smart enough to do that you self (not to insult you intlegience or anything!)

i'm sure uni is fast paced but there is generally outside activities isn't there?

and on days off/after ours there is usually people who still hang around e.g a uni near me has a bar with bands playing at night (etc)

also there is time when you get lunch etc, i'm sure, so use your time wisely.

even before a lecturer begins introduce yourself to someone,

i know it's hard, but remember whether with friends or gf's - confidence is key.

if your confident and friendly you should have no trouble, you just have to actively be friends with people you know?

perhaps go on the uni website, maybe there is a forum?

Once all the groups split up, you will have friends. Its like starting year 7, everyone is in big groups and your not. then everyone splits up and you become friends with other people. PLUS ITS ONLY BEEN A WEEK!!!

you should start to talk with other students in your college.
i know it is better to be single then having any girlfriend.
i'll suggest you that make your friends to boys only.
because if a girl become your friend then you never know that when you fall in love.
