Make sure that you don't have a previous version installed of Microsoft Office. Then try to reinstall Microsoft Office 2003...

I would first go to add or remove programs in Vista, and check if there is any previous version of Microsoft Office. If its not listed in add or remove programs, then just install Microsoft Office 2003. If Vista complains with error messages or weird prompts, then that means Microsoft Office 2003 might not be compatible with Vista. However, I do know Microsoft Office 2003 is compatible on Windows XP.
