USB files disappeared, please help?
Just last night, I was able to open files in my USB. Today when I connected it, all my files are gone and there's nothing in my USB. I have really, extremely important files in my USB and I'm freaking out right now because I didn't do anything wrong that could have caused the disappearance of my files. Does anyone know how to get the files back? Or what happened? When I connect my USB now and I go to my computer to click Removable Disk (F:), something pops up, saying 'Please insert a disk into Removable Disk (F:).'
Please help.
When I checked the properties of Removable Disk (F:), it says there is 0 bytes in both used space AND free space. What happened?

Seems to me you didn't "safely remove hardware." Have you tried searching in your PC. Try recent documents in your start menu or any temp files on your pc.
When you remove your usb drive you have to click on the icon on the bottom right corner and "safely remove hardware" and wait for it to prompt that is is now safe.
98% of the time you can just remove a drive and no harm will be done but I guess your one of the unlucky ones.
For some drives there is an option in your device manager to optimize the preformance and not have to do this.

Sometimes the USB receptacle on the computer (or drive itself) collects tiny particles which blocks the connection between the two devices...I would blow canned air into both connections and then try again. A restart of your computer might do the trick as well. If you did NOT format the drive then it should work just fine.

I had this problem not too long ago.. my usb drive had died. Try using it on another pc. If you are able to access the drive, don't worry the files are still there, you just need to use some kind of recovery software to view them.. you can go to http://www.usb-data-recovery.com/ and download a free version just to see if that helps.

You can use Photorec to recover the deleted files:

Despite its name, it recovers just about every type of file, not just photos.
