Why is this happening?

My mom has yellow skin and she is really tired all the time. She has really high liver enzymes and the doctors just don't know what is wrong with her. She has never smoked, drank alcohol, or done any drugs...So what is wrong with her and why is this happening?

This condition is called Jaundice. Check her eyes, and see if they are bright yellow. There are three types of jaundice, pre-hepatic, hepatic, and post hepatic. That means before the liver, the liver and after the liver.

    The pre-hepatic causes include

    Haemiolysis, and Gilbert's syndrome.

    The hepatic causes are

Viral hepatitis, Alcoholic hepatitis, Cholestatic liver disease(blocked bile) Genetic Hemochromotosis, Wilson's(copper accumulations) and Alpha 1 Anti-trypsin deficiency,

and the post hepatic causes are Common bile duct stones, Pancreatic cancer, Cholangiocarcinoma, and Liver metastases.

NONE of these causes are any thing to ignore. There is nothing on this list of possible causes that would be considered minor. All are deadly serious. Please take your mom to a different doctor, or hospital emergeny room ASAP!

Well, the yellow skin in Jaundice. There's too much bilburin in her blood... probably from her elevated liver enzymes. It could be acute liver failure.

As a symptom she has jaundice. This points to an excess of BILIRUBIN (not biliburri burri) in her blood. The origin could be a malfunction of her liver, her gall bladder or her pancreas. She should have a MIR of the three.
