No, it doesn't really make a difference if he shaves his legs or not since usually hair on the legs is kind of spread apart, but it might be a good idea to make sure he shaves his face because he could get a funny tan line there. Also, need to make sure he has some type of lotion on his skin. Dry skin will not tan.

I work at a tanning salon, and I really don't recommend going for 5 minutes. It wont do anything for you. Go to the lowest level for 8 minutes for 2 days in a row, then skip a day. Go for 2 days in a row for 11-13 minutes then skip another day. Go 2 more days for 15 minutes and if you have a base tan then go up to the next level for 15 minutes and after around 2 weeks you should see a nice difference. If you don't see a base tan, don't go to the next level, keep going to the first level until you notice a little tan. And if you don't use lotion, you probably wont get tan.

Note: Some of the answers above are a load of rubbish!

Yes sunbeds are risky, they can cause damage to your skin and even skin cancer so you are taking a risk when you use them however, i think they are ok in moderation!

I don't use sunbeds all year round, only 2 months in advance before my summer holiday to get a base colour!

You only need to go twice a week, remember moderation is key! I go on a for 8 minutes a week, 2x 4 minute sessions and leave 3 days in between the days i go!

You could wear knickers the first couple of times so that you can notice a gradual change in colour and keep track of it and then when you feel like your tan is developing go on nude to make sure you don't have really pale bits, just slight shade difference! You get that on holiday anyways! :)

Moisturise every day if you can, this helps prolong your tan.

I don't use tanning creams that they sell in the shops, i think they are a waste of money and most of them contain ingredients which irritate the skin or include fake tan which can go very wrong if not applied professionally.

Make sure you drink water before you go on to prevent dehydration and remember your eye protection!

Depends on how quickly you tan naturally and whether you use creams and excellarators, your only supposed to start with about 3-6 mins a week and maye increase it to 2 9 min sessions a week, anymore would be dangerous.

It all depends on your skin. Its really hard to notice when you start to get tan because its so gradual. Really you do get results the first time you go but there so minor you cant notice. Put one of the stickers on your hip and you'll see the results when you take it off.

but if you go everyday, you should start to notice after a week.

Nothin wrong with them. Its only a problem when you get idiots going on them everyday.

Most salons reccomend 5 mins, 2-3 a week. Should notice a tan after 2 weeks or so.

None, are you trying to kill yourself, look old before you are etc etc.

Sorry this is not the answer you wanted, but i feel passionate about sun beds, think they should be banned forever. Treat yourself to a nice spraytan. Much safer.

you only need to go on them once to get cancer. use fake tan don't be a fool. even if you don't get cancer you'll be leathery, wrinkled and hideous by the time you're 30.
