Anyone heard about Bill 1098?
This newest atrocity of the democrats was started in CT by state Senator McDonald and state Representative Lawlor. Both these men are openly homosexual and have in the past introduced same-sex marriage bills to the state.
Bill 1098 blatantly attacks the Catholic Church and the provisions contained in 1098 completely disregard our 1st Amendment.
Basically, the bill states that anyone (just regular lay people like you or me) can run for 'office' in a diocese/parish election to be on the 'committee' that would control everything that goes on in said Catholic parish. The parish priests along with the bishops themselves would have absolutely no say in anything pertaining to the parish.
Oddly enough, this bill applies singularly to the Catholic Churches; no other religion is touched by it.
Here is a link for more info on the bill, if you haven't already learned about it or wish to know more: http://ctfamily.org/
Also, here's a link to the bill itself: http://www.cga.ct.gov/2009/TOB/S/2009SB-01098-R00-...
I hope you all realize what an awful thing this is; however, we're still hoping that it will be shot down, as it is a blatant opposition to the 1st amendment.
So, my question ----- has anyone heard of this bill yet? There's been some buzz about it on the radio but I'm not sure if it has reached the national news yet. Thoughts and comments are much appreciated...
It doesn't 'weaken the power of religion,' it takes what belongs to religion, under the constitution, and gives it to state - according to the 1st Amendment, that's illegal. It's not about power...
No, in part A, the bill states:
'A corporation may be organized in connection with any Roman Catholic Church or congregation in this state'
The corporation refers to the 'committee' of laymen formed, as it says later in the bill.

Sorry, I approve of anything that weakens the power of religion.

After reading the bill you posted it appears that it applies to Religious Corporations.... which is essentially a nonprofit religious entity.... that recieves money from the churches for charitable work.
(c) The members of the board of directors shall be elected from among the lay members of the congregation at an annual meeting of the corporation. The members of the board of directors shall serve for staggered terms of not more than three years. The members of the board of directors shall owe a fiduciary duty to the corporation and the members of the congregation.
The above basically says the church congregation are the electorate....so i'm not sure where you are getting that out of the link you posted.
This is actually the result of religious entities being exempt from tax laws, ....so the need for a board of directors to oversee the use of charitable donations is required by law.

I have heard of this but believe me I don't very seriously this could ever pass anywhere. It is a violation of the 1st Amendment! And these dou** bags are the first ones to holler "separation of Church and state",

First time i hear of this bill but i already don't like it. I'm sick of the Catholic Church always being targeted as if it's the only religion group that has done wrong. I hope it doesn't pass.

To answer your question, no, I hadn't heard about it yet. Thanks for the links.
I think it is unfair that it only applies to Catholic Churches and no other denominations. That is totally against the 1st Amendment, and it will never pass.
