Lester signed for five years, 30 million. The club has a one year option at $13 million.

Lester would have been eligible for free agency in four years, so the base deal gives the Sox one extra year before Lester can become a free agent. If the Sox exercise the option, that means they bought out 2 years of free agency in a 6 year 43 million dollar deal.

Mar 10: Lester is among 19 players who have agreed to one-year contracts with the Boston Red Sox. Lester's agent has been working on a long-term deal with the Red Sox, but the pitcher said Monday an agreement had not yet been completed.

Mar 10: LHP Jon Lester, who is not yet eligible for arbitration, signed a one-year deal with the Red Sox. A day earlier, Lester denied a report that he had agreed to terms on a long-term contract extension.

According to Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe, Red Sox pitcher Jon Lester will take a physical this weekend. If he passes, his five-year, $30MM deal will become official.

I actual have a lot of comprehend for the guy, as a starter and a reliever, he's been successfule at the two positions. He keeps to return lower back from injuries, so which you ought to those adult adult males asserting he's done, i does no longer count variety Smoltz out. super %. up for Boston (i'm a Yankee's fan). I see him as a reliever, through fact the wear and tear and tear of commencing could placed him lower back on the DL, i does no longer choose to threat it (he's forty now, real?) i'm no longer asserting he can not start up, yet as an entire, you like him to be with you the full 3 hundred and sixty 5 days so which you will desire to observe his innings. Bostons SR is especially stable already: Beckett, cube-ok, Lester, Penny, and Wakefield. it is going to be yet another super AL East adventure-up! Boston followers could hate the Yanks, and IYank followers could hate the Sox, yet you comprehend we like to observe them play one yet another and does no longer have it any incorrect way. 2 super communities duking it out.
