Do I HAVE to concrete my drive to park a small car on it?

We intend to park a small car (750KG) in front of our house on what is already a small front garden with a layer of pebbles. Now, given the weight of the car do we absolutely have to concrete this area or could we get away without doing it if we never park anything heavier on it?

No, a gravel drive will be fine, but remember to keep refilling any ruts or the gravel will give way to earth and finally soft mud into which the car WILL sink.

Personally I'd invest in around eight or ten concrete slabs and put them in a line where the car wheels rest, two lines of four or five depending on the length of the car - you can park on those and they'll spread the weright.

Check out if you are allowed to park a car there first.

In Scotland we have to get permission as some developers insist on a front garden.

Remember to lay a membrane under the stones to help drainage and also stops the stones being pushed into the ground.

Rake regularly and it will stop rivets forming where you are parking.

    No concrete required.

on dry season, it actually doesnt matter since your car is not that heavy. however, water can softer up the soil underneath the pebbles so probable if you are on a tight budget, put concrete on the area where the tires are. like 2 lines with the width of your tires.

A concrete slab would desire to be poured over a superb mattress with all organic and organic and delicate soil got rid of and a good mattress of crushed stone.
