Downloading Adobe Reader 9-Security Settings does not allow websites.....?

I am having difficulties downloading Adobe Reader 9. I am using IE7 and I am having the following issues:

1) I first get a popup that reads "The website wants to install the following add on- Adobe DLM. If you trust the website and the add-on click here to install.

2) I click on the prompt and a dialog box pops up that tells me to Install Active X.

3) I then receive another yellow pop up that says "Your security settings do not allow websites to use Active X controls installed on your computer. The page may not display correctly...Click here for options

4) Click on the message and it gives me a message "More Information"

I got to Tools/IE options/Security/Custom Level and these are my Active X options:

Allow Previously Unused Active X Controls......Disable

Allow Scriplets....Prompt

Automatic Prompting....Disable

Binary and Script Behaviors.....Enable

Display video.........Disable

Download Signed Active X controls......Prompt

Download Unsigned Active X......Disable

Initialize and Script Active X.......Disable

Run Active X Controls and Plug ins....Enable

Script Active X......Enable

Please help. I have even tried to change the settings to the default leve but that does not work. I recently had a tech fix my computer and he went to Run/Msconfig/Selective Startup and disabled all programs for startup. This made my PC run alot smoother but now i am having issues with my Adobe. I tried to open an Adobe Document but it would say Adobe 8.1 has stopped working so i unistalled it thinking that I could reinstall the program. Help please...and im not a techie so please use the simpliest methods of explanations that you can give :)Thanks

You can try a workaround. Install Firefox and use it to go to Adobe.com. Firefox doesn't use the ActiveX control to install Adobe Reader, it downloads a file. Save the installer and then run it from your local computer and see if that works.

You first must be using an 'Administrative' level account.

Active X is scripting, and will make (install) stuff to your system so be very careful with who you're getting this from.

In IE> Tools> Int. Options> Advanced> Security heading; check 'Allow active content to run files on my computer'...

Again, this is at best a risky setting.
