apricot glazed chicken?

I am making apricot glazed chicken tommorow and i have a question... do i need to put the glaze on before i cook the chicken or wait for the glaze till the chicken is partially cooked... i dont want it to burn and this is the first time i am making this chicken...

    Schniedmanb09, TX2step is correct, I do the same thing let the bird get some color, then baste and continually baste. If I baste before the bird with the glaze at the beginning, it seems to burn and destroys the bird. I do the same when I do a leg of pork as far as the glaze is concerned, even though I massage with oil and give it a good hit of sea salt so I can get the crackling, I still wait before I baste with the glaze.

    I make apricot jam glazed Cornish hens, and just baste them lightly throughout the cooking process. I cover them in between (so the baste won't burn) and uncover the last 1/2 hour or so to brown them

    Put the glaze on a few minutes before the chicken is done. What will happen is the sugars will burn if you put it in any longer.
