How close should strangers get to you?

Here in the Philippines, I am jabbed quite often, especially from children.
I was taught the 18 inch rule (40 cm). This is what is used for passengers on New York City Subway trains.
Even though I have lived in Asia for many years, if anyone gets closer than that, I get clostrophobic.

No closer than they need to be. :)
If you're in a crowded bus, then stangers will be within a few inches of you. If you pass them on the street, then they may be less than a foot away. But if you're standing at a bus stop, there's no need for anyone to be closer than 2 or 3 feet away from you.

Depends. If they re giving you mouth to mouth resuscitation, then rather close.
Other than that, like just talking, than arm's length is a minimum

it depends where you are.
if it's crowded im sure there isn't really a limit, but if theres space, probably like arm-length
