It depends on weight. You need to take it to the post office.
Unless by "package" you just mean an envelope. If it's just a standard envelope, it won't need to be weighed. I don't know the answer to how much it costs, but you could call the post office and they could tell you. At least that would save you a trip.

As many as you want to put on as long as the value of the stamps equals the postal cost.
You can put lots of small denomination stamps that will just about cover your parcel or you can put a few large denomination stamps on it.
I assume that you are asking this question as the recipient is a stamp collector.
Regrettably, I do not know the cost of mailing a package from Australia to USA, which is what I think you are trying to ask.

you have to pay for insurance as well so you need to take it to the post office that way you can get a tracking number as well
