A Hypothetical Question for Republicans?
s there any possible pair-up (2008) that you can think of where you would have voted for the candidate from the opposing party?
You can choose ANY living politician from either party.
For example:
If it had turned out to be Hillary against Romney, I would have chosen Hillary (probably)
If it had turned out to be Lieberman against Romney, I would have chosen Lieberman (definitely)
If it had turned out to be Barney Frank against Thad Allen (was that his name), I would have shot myself! (definitely)
Background: I consider myself a political Mugwump. I voted for McCain, I really liked Bush. But I sent money to Hillary this year before the primaries were over, none to Republicans.
Just a fun question, put your imaginations in overdrive!
PS I asked this question a few hours ago to Dems and got no responses. Do the Reps have a more independent streak? We will see.

I also voted for McCain - but I knew it was only somewhat of a protest vote against liberalism because Obama had this one in the bag.
Had Lieberman run on the democratic ticket, I would have more than likely voted for him. An honest politician who speaks his mind without regard for which side of the aisle he's on - what a pleasant and revolutionary change vs. politics as usual.
2012 should be a very interesting campaign.

Lieberman -you can't possibly be from Connecticut then he and Dodd have done nothing for our.State i liked Giuliani having seen the changes he made to new york politics (which everyone before said couldn't be done ) and voted for Romney in the primary (once Giuliani was out)i also voted for McCain but more as a vote against obama ,not that i truly supported him and that's what i feel a lot of Republicans did(or didn't vote at all ).i have to admit also that I'd feel a lot more confident with Hillary as our president now.

I would cross party lines in an instant should I find the candidate's position favorable and correct. it is difficult to see this in practice as a presidential candidate is so closely linked to the party platform, and I am not in agreement with much if any of what the Democrats offer. I don't want "children to starve", etc. But I do disagree with the all the notions or the methods of achieving them. More realistic, I could vote for an independent in a heartbeat if I considered them appropriate.

If it had been Kucinich against McCain I'd have chosen Kucinich.
I am very opposed to his big government ideas but consider him honest and believe he would truly be trying to do what is right for the US people, not special interests.
I am a Ron Paul Republican.
I might have voted for a different Republican had they won the nomination (Hunter, for example) but with McCain, I wrote in Ron Paul.

I would have been half tempted to vote Barney Frank just for the entertainment value alone. The leader of the democratic party could not be represented by anyone else more fitting other than the life like Elmer Fudd.
