Did Fox News hire Glen Beck to balance against Oldbermann?

Are they on at the same time? (No cable anymore, just down to internet clips, but I was a faithful Fox New Watcher for years).

They have similar styles

1. Loud

2. Opinionated

3. Don't listen to their guests

4. Mugging the camera and crazy camera angles

5. Willing to COMPLETELY stretch the truth

6. (what do you call it when someone has an over high opinion of themselves?)

And many more.

I think that Fox make a really bad move hiring this "pundit". What do you think

Good Luck to Everyone in 2009!

Update:

Fox News Channel used to be more fair and balanced, but it is changing. Hannity sans Colmes is not balance. And this Beck guy DEFINITELY helps tilt the channel to one side.

If I ran Fox I would hire Tucker Carlson, he has the most "middle of the road" that you can get out of one person.

Update 2:

And for those of you who say that he does not cut of his guests, watch the clip of him interviewing Ben Stein the other day. He asked Stein a question, then tried to cut in during the whole answer "wait a minute..wait a minute" And when Ben Stein finally stopped, it turns out Beck wanted to tell his producer something. I thought Stein was going to punch him in the neck. Yeah, real professional.

Update 3:

Ok, for the people who say he doesn't stretch the truth. I saw Beck play a clip of a Democrat saying to High School students "Our parents were wrong in the 60's (about some issue) and your parents may be wrong on some stuff now (paraphrase)" and tried to stretch that into "Democrats are telling you or children not to obey you" I call that stretching the truth, just my opinion.

Update 4:

Well, I guess you all proved it. Fox made a good balance, because you all came down hard on one side or the other.

Update 5:

Micheal, Thanks for at least telling me what time they are on.

Having more viewers does not make anyone right, however.

Having more viewers does also not mean that they listen to their guests. Why bother to have guests if you not only don't listen to them, you constantly cut them off? From what you all say, you could listen to him non-stop for an hour.

Let's address each of your points. #1 Loud - Glenn does get excited, but so does everyone who has ADD #2 Opinionated - Glenn does love this country and believes in the constitution of these United States. If you believe that makes him wrong, then you should move to a country that better fits your political beliefs. #3 - Guests - Glenn does cut people off but it is more because of those pesky commercials/station breaks. #4 - Camera mugging - Refer to #1 AND Glenn does not operate the camera, he's in front of the camera. #6 - Glenn says time and again that he is NOT a scholar, economist or politician and does not claim to have all the answers. I suggest you take the cotton out of your ears and LISTEN to his show!!

Fox does not need to "balance" against Olbermann. They own MSNBC in the ratings. It's not even close. Beck was hired away from CNN for his unique style and perspective. I don't condemn anyone who is successful even if they are a complete loon like Olbermann or just a weirdo like Beck. Glenn Beck is on at 5 in the afternoon. Olbermann at 8 where he is crushed by Bill O'Reilly in the ratings by 3 to 1 every night.

Beck does do all those things you listed 1-6. He also has gotten on this rant crap since he joined Fox. However there are fundamental differences between the two -- Beck holds both parties feet to the fire while Olbermann loves Obama so much and he can do no wrong that he probably looks at naked pictures of the new pres.

If he ever made some minor mistake, that is obtainable. yet did he ever make a political declare that became out to be completely fake and wasn't area of a few 'breaking information' (it rather is often changing while the story first comes out)? No, i do no longer think he ever did. Neither you nor your first 2 answerers can arise with something so i think your claims of "understanding he (supposedly) is incorrect" is incorrect. Reagan pronounced that "that is not that liberals are ignorant, that is in simple terms that they be attentive to plenty that's no longer so". thank you for thus completely demonstrating, what Reagan exchange into speaking approximately. Addition; Sagean, #a million no longer one in each and every of those rates in any of your hyperlinks exchange into in context #2 there isn't any info Beck pronounced those rates or used that suited wording. #3 in spite of if Beck did say it there could nonetheless be no info out of your hyperlinks that those statements are fake (extremely in in spite of context Beck could have used them, in spite of if he HAD easily pronounced them). So your hyperlinks nonetheless teach no longer something concerning this concern. FAIL

Big difference between Blabberman and Beck. Beck actually cares for the future of this country and puts forth solutions. Blabberman just runs his mouth and NEVER offers any solutions to any of the problems he whines about.

  • Glenn Beck is watched by 3.5 Million people. Obermann has well under a million viewers. Fox news hired Beck because he fits into the fair and balanced programming they show on that network and he crushes the competition.

Oldberman has an audience of less than 150,000 viewers, Beck has an audience of over 5 million. That should answer your question.

i think fox saw a good thing and ran with it. i don't think he stretches the truth. it's an opinion show. he will rise in popularity as the american people get tired and fed up with the same old song and dance that the government is selling us. we DO need to take america back for AMERICANS, not some world government.

Olbermann has about 2 people watching his show.

    There is no competition.

And attack beck is now the montra of the left because he agrees with the 350 economists and 3 Nobel Economists who say Obama's plan is bunk.

    http://abcnews.go.com/Business/Economy/story?id=70...

So, as usual, instead if listening they attack dissenting opinions. That's why the left has NEVER been good at running a war or a country.

You obviously have never listened to either one enough to know the differences.

Beck has credibility. Olbermann has ZERO.
