No. That was the whole point of the movie: that they weren't real. It was a "documentary" of how you can create such hype about a band that doesn't even exist and no one has ever heard.

AFTER the movie, there was a little bit of a Spinal Tap phenomenon but no, they are not a real band and never were.

Sorry but it is not, kinda, It was formed for a TV show in 1978 and then reunited for tv shows or the rockumentary you're talking about. Anyway, it is said that they're going to tour between April and May of this year around the U.S.

They were from the movie, but actually played some songs. On vh1 Classic, they play videos and occasionaly a Spinal Tap song will come on
