Is Dave Matthews Band considered Classic or Modern Rock?

definitely modern rock.

classic rock indicates stuff usually from the sixties and seventies, such as the beatles, the doors, led zeppelin, pink floyd, etc.

dave matthews band started in the nineties, and their sound is more in keeping with "modern rock" (though they're a little more "adult alternative"ish) than with classic rock.

Hopefully modern, because DMB were popular when I was in college, and if they are classic rock that makes me an old lady! Kidding aside, I believe a band has to have been popular for at least twenty years to be considered classic rock. And it's okay to put them with Blink 182 and All American Rejects because the titles "classic" and "modern" have to do with how long the band has been around, not the actual genre of the music.

And they are VERY far from AAR and Blink 182. If you think DMB fits in a category with them then you really don't know much DMB music.

The day they're considered classic will surely dilute the very meaning of the word to a gelatinous sludge.

Therefore no, not classic at all which only leaves us with Modern Rock.

He is not classic rock in my view. He is what I call acoustic or alternative rock. Just saw him live last summer and I was completely moved by the band and of course, Dave. Its anything you want but Classic, as they dont mimic rock music of any time period. They are the DMB and they have their own sound.

I don't think they've been around enough to be considered Classic Rock...

If you want to categorize them, "Jam Band" would certainly fit, but I just think of them as mainstream rock and roll (with a nice jazzy touch).

I would almost say most or at least some of their songs as Folk-rock

Definitely Modern, they formed in the 90's.

Great music but not classic yet.

he's modern rock..specifically adult alternative...all american rejects and blink are modern rock but so is jack johnson and ryan adams, --just completey different subgenres
