How do you calculate the pH of a formic acid solution that contains 1.41% formic acid by mass? (density=1.01g/mL)

    Assume 1 litre of solution.

    D=1.01g/ml so mass of formic acid = 1000ml * 1.01g/ml * 1.41% = 14.241g.

    moles of formic acid = 14.241g / 46.03g/mol = 0.309mol

    Formic acid has 1 acidic proton, and assuming complete ionization [H+] = 0.309M

    pH = -log[H+] = 0.51
