You can start any time now. Just soak the puppy food in warm water and mash it up to make a gruel. You can add a little canned food to this, just to make it smell good and make it appealing to them. Offer this to the pups 4 times per day and make sure the Dam is NOT with the pups when you do this. Just add less water and stop mashing it so much as the pups age. They should be able to eat the kibble completely dry by the time they are 6 weeks old. I hope you find appropriate homes for them, no earlier then 8 weeks, and have your b*tch spayed after that.

Dog chow does not contain the vitamins and nutrients that a puppy needs to grow. You need to be feeding a puppy chow. More than likely, the dog has the runs because you did an abrupt change in his diet. You should be feeding what the breeder was feeding. When you change a dog or pups food, it must be done slowly.

3 weeks is a good age to start, but you need to soak it for the first week or two until they get the hang of it. Put a handful of puppy chow into a bowl of warm water and let it sit for a few hours. It will soak up most of the water so add some more warm water and then give it to them. They should like it!

Generally, around the age of three or four weeks, they should be introduced to small amounts of puppy food. By the time they're weaned (about seven to eight weeks), they should be able to get complete nutrition from solid food.
Puppies of small breeds (under 20 pounds as an adult) will reach full maturity by nine to 12 months, while large breeds (over 50 pounds) may not reach full maturity until the age of two. Unless you have other pets, your small-breed puppy is generally best fed with the free-feeding method. Most of them will develop good eating habits with food available to them at all times.
Larger breed puppies should be fed with the portion control method. Some of the larger breeds are prone to bone growth problems and if they are overfed.
For optimal skeletal development, large-breed puppies should be fed a portion-controlled diet specifically formulated for large dogs

you should not feed them puppy chow.. that stuff is crap.. instead feed them and mom a good qualtiy puppy food.. well for now you shouldnt switch brands
mom should have been eating puppy food throughout her pregnancy and now when nursing too.. the pups will learn to eat the food with her.. use a shallow dish and they will eat a long side of her at about 4-5 weeks of age.

depends on their size..what breed? larger breeds can star eating watered down puppy chow around 3 or 4 weeks..small breeds don't need to start until 5 weeks or so...when the mama dog starts nipping at them to stop them from nursing go ahead and try...just put a pie pan (something low to the ground) on the floor with warm water and puppy food....let the water soak in for a few minutes first

Medium to large breeds start taking canned & dry food (mixed) at 3 weeks of age. Usually by 5 weeks they are eating dry food and drinking water with very little mothers milk. By 6 wks they should be fully weaned and have their first shots.

it is okay to styart them now. Soften the food in warm water to make it easier for them to eat. Might mush it up a bit too.
