Why is the screen on my laptop dark?

It is a Compaq laptop, I just had it wiped out and updated. After a week of having it back. The screen is dark as if some one turned the brightness down. Only no one did. I can kinda see the desktop but not enough to actually do my work on. Can anyone please explain to me why and how to fix this? Thank You.

♥Lily♥ Bean is a bit off ;) this has nothing to do with power saving.

if you still can faint see the desktop then most likely the backlight is gone. go to geek squad and ask how much a replacement would cost. the backlight itself cost $10 - 20, the labor is the culprit.

if you or someone you know have good skills it can be done yourself. backlights are sold on ebay for the most laptop brands and models. a step by step description can be found on the support site of the laptop manufacturer homepage or maybe on www.wikihow.com

you can use any description, it's almost the same procedure for each laptop.

btw, try tapping everywhere on the back of the screen, maybe this can bring back the backlight to life.

Your computer is "power saving". It just dims so it can run longer on the battery and use less power.

You can change it in your power settings. Right click on desktop, click personalize, click screen saver, then click 'Change Power Settings'.

    Pretty annoying thing eh? lol

can you see the battery icon on your lower right portion of the screen? left click on that and choose high performance.
