at about what age are baby hamsters safe from being eaten?
My dwarf hamsters had a pair of babies. I suspect they had more but the rest were eaten. Anyway, I'm not sure the exact day they were born because I have a toy lion shelter inside the cage so they could have been born wayyy earlier than when I noticed (which was about 1 1/2 weeks ago). They now have some amount of fur and wander out of the toy lion quite frequently. Their eyes still seem closed although they do seem to know where their going sometimes. Every time I don't see one of them I start to fret that mummy went homicidal.. please can anyone tell me if their at a safe age yet?
sorry I should have been clearer. I live in an apartment and I hide my hamster cage in my bedroom out of reach of any predators. I meant being eaten by their parents.

Sorry about the folks having trouble understanding what you mean.
If the babies still have their eyes closed at 1.5 weeks after you discovered them, they were born about when you found them.
Normally, they are safe from being eaten when they are fully furred, eyes open and waling out of the nest. Some momma hamsters do their best not to let them escape and will keep dragging them back in everytime.

Yes, sorry about the people who didn't understand before. I understood.
= )
I agree with the above. They should be safe when fully furred and start exploring. Probably when their eyes are open you can be pretty sure the parents won't eat them. Is the male hamster in with them? Because a lot of times he will eat the babies when they are first born. I have seen it happen. I wouldn't trust the males in with the babies though until they are about half grown. I am paranoid I guess.

It doesn't matter that you changed the circumstances of your question after it went through. Oh, this Yahoo Answers is very unforgiving.
I agree that they are NEVER safe from being eaten. Go along with the first question.

hamsters r small critters. they r attacked by any dog or cat or other large animals.
i had 2 & they were adults but they got eaten & shredded by a neighbouring bulldog.
:'(
i suggest u to keep a close eye & always keep them indoors or make an indoor small oasis for them. or keep guard if u hv 2 take dem outside.
its not so difficult when u really care & r concsious.
