Sensible adults please.... large painful lump in breast?
I'm 19 and have noticed in the past two weeks, that my left breast (which has always been slightly larger than my right) has become very painful, if touched or knocked even slightly it feels really very bruised and tender. Sometimes I can feel a degree of pain when not even moving that much.
I can feel a large, very hard lump, or area of tissue, about the size of a golf ball, inside my breast- quite central but slightly higher up, which is the most painful area. It seems to be quite lumpy and I cannot tell what shape it is exactly, but it starts just under the surface of the skin. Just like a hard mass. For a week or so I presumed it was my period cycle affecting it, maybe forming some swelling and tenderness. Usually before periods they will both feel slightly sore, but this feels much more painful and is only in one breast. But this time its been going on for two weeks and my period has been and gone. Any ideas?

You need to go and see your doctor so he can examine you and maybe run some tests and then decide what is the most suitable treatment for the lump. Hopefully it is an innocent cyst and nothing to worry about, but if it is something worse then hopefully you will have got it before it has had a chance to spread. See a doctor ASAP.

The most likely cause is a cyst, They are very common and rarely associated with cancer. With a cyst, the lump feels smooth and firm, moves easily and may be tender. If several cysts are grouped together, any swelling may feel irregular.
Cysts often occur in both breasts and can develop anywhere within them. About ten per cent of women (one in ten) develop recurrent cysts.
However having said this If you notice a lump or are aware of any new change in your breasts, visit your doctor straight away.
Any different or unusual change in the breast should always be examined by a doctor. This is because even though most breast lumps are benign, they still need to be checked carefully to rule out the possibility of cancer. Also, if it is a cancer, the earlier the treatment is given, the more likely it is to be successful.
Try not to panic I had recurrent cysts when I was your age and know how worrying this can be. Go and visit your doctor and get it checked out as soon as possible.
Good Luck

Although you are still quite young I'd strongly recommend getting it checked out by your GP. It can be caused by many things, from a blocked duct, hormonal changes or even a tumour.
any changes in your breasts should be checked out just to rule out anything serious. For your own peace of mind and well being I'd make an appointment as soon as you can and get examined. It's the only way you are going to know what's causing it.
