Why do people answer when they have no clue? First, ignore anyone that says to compare them. As far as I know all the 1" breakers look the same to me and may physically fit (I prefer the line with 3/4" breakers, Square D QO or Cutler-Hammer CH). That does not mean they are compatible. And whoever puts Siemens and GE together is wrong--they are certainly not the same company or the same breaker!! You should go by the labels in the panel that would say what types of breakers it accepts, rather than just the brands. This can be a complicated issue, and I also wouldn't use breakers that were just given to me. What is their history.

That said, I would say your breakers are NOT compatible. Murry is related to Siemens and Challenger is related to Cutler-Hammer. GE has nothing to do with either of these.

Murray and challenger breakers should be the same, even a ge, or possibly a home line square D will fit.

Murray and challenger kind of were together before they were absorbed by siemens/ge this is why we have the connection on why they will fit, when the other companies were going out of buisness, the real engineers were telling all the company reps to use the other breakers, that is why for a time all the stuff was exactly the same, heck, they were making the breakers on the same line, all the stuff was made to the same spec's, there were a lot of companies that are no longer around,, I would be more worried if you said you had a federal pacific panel,,

I just put 3 ge breakers in a challenger panel today, they are the same, trust me I really do this for a living, All the "other" makes of breakers I have looked at in the last 20 years that would fit had an equal or higher AIC rating..

If you doubt what I had to say, just call up an electrical supply house that sell's GE equipment and ask them if a GE breaker will work fine in a challenger panel...

I wouldn't get too excited about some person who play's an engineer on the internet, like I said call the supply house and ask them,, Their approved cross reference, pretty much say's what I just did..

If it is a style "MP" Murray panel, then American Switch, Westinghouse type br, Bryant, Challenger, Sylvania, Crousehinds, Murray, Frank Adams, Eaton/Cutler Hammer, General Electric (full size only), General Switch, Siemens, ITE, Gould, Montgomery Ward and Sears all make breakers that will fit.

For the best answers, search on this site https://shorturl.im/aybhC

Murray, Bryant, Challenger, and Westinghouse no longer exist. Progression of corporate buyouts has led to these all becoming Eaton (Cutler Hammer). The Cutler Hammer, type BR, breaker fits these panels. Be careful not to get the type CH breaker (tan-colored handle). They will not fit.

You should be able to tell by looking at the breakers, do they attach the same? Murray typically use GE style breakers.------- I don't know what mr idiot electrical engineers problem is, but I have a murray panel in my cottage and my previous home and both used GE breakers, and they fit perfectly, in fact they were recommended.

Pull one of the breakers and compare it to what you have. Chances are they are not interchangeable.
