Did they ever open that long-list subway they found?
A few years ago a construction crew dug a hole behind a fast-food place on Long Island found a complete subway system built in the 1920s which ran out to the Hamptons. It had platforms, rails and even lighting fixtures. They called it the South Fork subway. Did they ever put it to use?

I agree with Rich.
The closest that story comes to reality are these instances:
--When the NYC Broadway subway was being dug in the early 20th century, the diggers stumbled into an experimental pneumatic subway that had been built by an experimenter named Beech many decades before, and then sealed up after the public lost interest. It was only about a block long.
--There is an abandoned segment of the Long Island Railroad under Atlantic Avenue in Brooklyn that has been sealed off for decades (since the age of steam locomotives). Every now and then a group obtains permission to take tour groups down for a tour. I believe it goes for several blocks in length.

Here's the story on the "Hampton Subway System (HSS)," http://www.danshamptons.com/content/danspapers/iss...
In recent years there has been proposed establishing the Peconic Bay Transportation Authority and the East End Shuttle system of more frequent buses and light rail trains east of Ronkonkoma and Speonk out to Greenport and Montauk.

Google it, you'll find it was a humorous piece done by a local writer. No truth to it.
