How do I get a puppy to stop going potty by the door?
He will potty in the yard when we are with him. If we let him out on his own, he will potty both #1 and #2 right by the door and them step all in it while jumping up on the door trying to get in. A huge mess to be cleaned up as well as him. Can anyone help???

put some paper down where you want him to go,
or walk him before leaving him in the yard.
it will take time, but its better than having to clean him up all the time. x

U missed the boat when U first started training. U go with the dog ON LEASH to where U want him to go, and when he does PRAISE him and give a treat.
Good luck on cleaning up by the door and spraying around there with some kind of perfume to get him to go out further in the yard.
If U put some effort into this U will get better results. U must walk out to where U choose to have the dog go potty -- U can not just have the pup guessing. If U do this then U will get going by the door.
Then of course there are always kennel runs.

your puppy is just a baby and the fact that he or she is going potty by the door (inside) is actually a good sign that he is learning! maybe you could take him out more often and encourage him to potty AWAY from the door. when he complies, dont forget his treat! also, he may be nervous going outside alone to potty and wants to stay close by the door to feel safe??

Go out WITH your puppy. Walk as far away from the door as possible, and ignore him. Do not try to play or whatever. Tell him POTTY and wait for him to do so. When he does, praise him, love him up and go inside with no poo by the door. You are being lazy. Don't let him out, TAKE him out to the place you prefer him to eliminate.

he's probably confused. everytime he goes, he's pretty much as close to you as possible so when you let him out by himself, he still wants to stay close to you... so maybe you should start teaching him to go without you close to him... like putting him away from the door and then going back inside and continuing to do so until he goes by himself in the yard, then make it a SUPER big deal and act like it's the greatest thing in the world and then he'll love going out into the yard

Your problem is a bit confusing. Does he go INside by the door or OUTside by the door when you are not with him?
and, how old is your puppy?
