Does anyone know what punishment a parent might get for truancy in Texas?
My sister and her husband have been charged because they've allowed their son to stay home a lot during the school year. Well, they've actually allowed it for the past 3 years. He's in 4th grade, and the school district has filed charges against the parents for keeping him home so much.
He's not a sickly boy, he's fine. He just doesn't always want to go to school, so they just let him stay home. They did it with another of their children, but she's since quit school, so they don't have that one to worry about any more.
But, I was wondering, if anyone out there knows what kind of punishment my sister and her husband could be facing?
My daughter attended school, all the time, so I don't know anything about truancy. Been looking online, but I can't find what I'm really looking for.
Thanks a lot. :)
I agree with you misslabled. I was blessed with one child(I couldn't have anymore), then here comes sis and she has 5!!! Life is strange sometimes.
You are right, Jeanet, it is my sister's fault. I live 600 miles from her, and kept telling her for the past 3 years it was going to catch up with her one day. She wouldn't listen. I love her, but can't feel sorry for her. :(

girl let me tell ya...my friends mom (whom i love so much) went to jail because her brother wouldn't go to school. She was there for a month.
also, cps 'could' i repeat, could get involved for child neglect. I have a friend who didn't take her daughter to school until she was turning 8. she didn't know her abc's or anything. i'd tell my friend all the time, but she was stubborn. cps was looking for her everywhere.
your sister could face jail time, or pay fines.
when i was in jail once (for tickets i owed and never paid)
there was a lady in there with just a shirt and shorts and some flip flops(no underwear) . she said cops came in with a search warrant and got her out of the shower, when i asked her why, she said it was because her son would skip school a lot, and he had truancy. she cried, and i cried. it was sad. i felt parents shouldn't have to pay for those people truancy, but in your sisters case, her son is in the 4th grade, it's her fault, in this situation.

They can be held in jail until they go to court. The child or children will be put in a detention center until a court date as well and that is when it is determined if the child or children should be placed, or if this will be a warning, and they will be released and have to pay court fines and costs.

They can actually be heavily fined and jailed. Too bad anyone allowed them to breed if they didn't want to be parents and were so lazy.

Usually a fine, and you could end up also being placed on probation.
