Should North Korea be punished.?

AS well as worrying the world with threats of nuclear war this country now has a population of hundreds of thousands of orphaned children who are legally ignored. Children of all ages left to wander the streets and find the odd grain of rice to eat. At the same time the children of the 'chosen ones' are fed, housed and schooled at the states expense. Most of the orphans had parents and siblings who starved to death. The state of North Korea is EVIL. Should the west do anything about it?

Update 2:

Here is the link..Nearly an hour long and not very cheerful.

Update 3:

Numnut..South Korea will always allow US to have WMD on its soil. They do not trust NK one bit. Japan fears it too. Why the long rant? My question referred to the policy of allowing orphans to starve to death. There are many whackos in NK who truly believe the present leadership is a gift from heaven but the majority know that they are living in a modern day hell. The state is terrified that this will be revealed, hence no mobiles, no internet, no outside contact. The moral debate for the west is 'can we allow the NK state to continue treating its people as it does?'

My answer is 'No.'

N.K. is a tough nut to crack.

Remember China rushed to their aide when it looked like they would be conquered for invading S. Korea in the 50's.

Though it would be nice intervene and stop the way they treat their population not to mention their threat to global peace with their fumbling around trying to build a nuclear weapon.

Is it worth getting into a confrontation with China, that would really be a lose lose situation.

It looks like until China changes their stance toward NK there is not much we can do.

punish for what? isn't that our policy, better say the american policy to the world and UN making NK what it is today?

isolated them, making the NK dictator gain easier control over the country. common people too poor too weak to fight back.

supply the dictator leader with energy and money knowing that common NK people won't benefit but still we keep supplying the dictator.

are you american? you want to hear the truth of who make northkorean what it is today? make sure you read till the end.

    ----------------------------------

"South Korea will always allow US to have WMD on its soil. " "Japan fears it too."

wow i am living here i never know that!

if you ever see international news, people in okinawa people in yokosuka and may place in japan protest every year say that they want the USA out!

how could USA OUT! mean any other than get out?

    ---------------------------------------

"we allow the NK state to continue treating its people as it does?' My answer is 'No.'"

SO? you don't get it right? why the dictator in NK can treat their people like that? that because the people is too poor too weak too fear to fight back. and why they are poor week fear? that because their country has been isolated for many many year. they got no support from the outsider. the only support that go in, it go directly to kim's hands. we keep support the dictator to brutally control the country.

if we don't want to see what we see today? open the border let the free market destroy them.

no fu-cking stupid american's style warfare and policy.

Source(s): can you see where is SK, NK and Japan on a world map? Next, tell yourself where is china? and who is china to the american? the real target for america is the chinese. NK is just a (good) excuse for the american to be here. i am seeing Japan-gov, SK-gov, USA-gov, and NK-gov need the problem to go on for as long as they can. because they all benefit from this. (it is not the people of the 4 countries benefit any thing.) american need and want to be here to keep eyes and WMD close to the chinese, also make money at the same time. (see how much money the japanese and SK pay for the american weaponry each year?!) that why the american need to make the north look very aggressive and evil to remind the people of SK and japan of the need to keep the American military in their own country. Japanese and SK gov also want the situation to carry on so they can keep spend the taxes money for the security reason, and it is uncheckable. so who know how much money they can spent for themselves under the uncheckable security reason? NK gov also know what is going on now, they need to be unpredictable to show that they are value enough for the american to keep them alive. don't you see what Kim get every time he scream that he will shoot a missile or go ahead with his nuke program? we pay him with money oil and food even if we know the poor NK people will benefit nothing! why our gov do that if it is not to keep Kim happy, keep Kim unpredictable, keep Kim here. Kim and his unpredictable gov here? American's WMD got every right to be here and it is next to china, the real target. American feel safer keeping her WMD close to the chinese throat ready to cut it if she need to. Do american want to loose the unimaginable hi-value location by get rid of NK unpredictable gov? hell no! keep common NK poor to keep out kim's enemy, keep Kim rich, so he can be here, so American can be here.

Hmmm, I have to agree with gifthorse here.

OK, so it's going on in North Korea now, but it's been going on in Congo for years, and in other parts of Africa for decades now. It's been going on in India for over 50 years. It's even going on in China.

Surely therefore India needs to do something - but isn't.

Africa needs to do something but keeps fighting it's wars.

Likewise, North Korea prefers to keep it's politics and let it's children suffer.

This world is a ******* mess. And this world has long been a ******* mess. Don't go thinking it's just North Korea. Watch Slum Dog Millionaire for an insight into how it's long been in India for the hundreds of millions of poor there.

The image of the population starving to death out in the countryside, would spur a moral and competent U.N. to take a step to provide emergency food to rural population. The people are eating bark from trees to sustain life. The leader for life imports fine wines and gourmet foods for himself. He, reportedly, owns the world's largest porn collection. The army elects its status over the assassination. The liberal community continues to blame the U.S. for the N. Korean plight.

I really don't know how to answer that.

I'm fully aware of how cruelly people can treat each other but I never knew it was legal to ignore children anywhere.... :-(

Maybe Obama will set things straight at some point..
