Natural help for dog's ear?

My dog has an aural hematoma like this http://www.marvistavet.com/html/body_aural_hematom... We drained it with a sterile syringe but of course it came right back. He has no apparent ear infection so I'm not too worried about his health and believe this will resolve itself with time. But cosmetically it is a disaster, as he's a Red Healer whose ears stick straight up. Now one is floppy. Do you know any natural remedies to speed the draining? Tea tree maybe? Should we splint it? Thanks for sharing your knowledge.

    Janet,

I am not sure how scientific it is, but my daughter once had a cat with an aural hematoma. They didn't opt for surgery, but drained as you mentioned. The cat was given Benadryl orally and we rubbed Arnica cream, and Aloe gel as topicals on the ear, right after draining. While hematomas do take care of themselves with time, the Benadryl fought the inflammation, and itching, while the creams and gels helped cool and heal the area. Anything to keep the cat from shaking more:-)

It worked and it went away totally in about three weeks.

    Hope this helps!
