In Minnesota, can you file a late state tax return and still receive a refund?

In preparing my taxes, I found out that my significant other did not file her state return last year.

She was entitled to a decent refund, would she still be able to claim it if we filed it now which is almost a year late?

    From Minnesota's Dept of Revenue:

    Time limits on refunds

To claim a refund, you must file your return within 3½ years from the original due date. You must file a return even if you intend to forfeit your refund or you missed the 3½-year deadline.

So the answer is yes. If she hasn't already, she should also file her federal return for the previous year too.

Yes, but you must request and extension before the deadline.
