My recipe calls for rum. Any ideas of what I can substitute?

I just need a small amount and don't want to buy it. I have white wine, vodka and maybe brandy in the house, as well as lots of other non-alcoholic baking stuff. Any thoughts?

I think they make rum extract and it would be found at a grocery store in the same section as the vanilla extract.

Use brandy and only 1/2 the amount of rum. Do not use wine or vodka.

If you are going to the market, you can buy rum flavouring.

I would use the brandy. It will alter the flavour a little, but it will be just as good.

If you are in that position again where you only need a little of a spirit, visit a bottle store and see if they have a miniature bottle, or take a small clean jar and call into a bar and buy a couple of nips.

Brandy, vanilla. Definitely not the wine or the vodka.

Use the brandy. And only a small amount.

You can buy a rum flavouring where you get vanilla etc.

But brandy might work as well.

Go to recipetips.com. It's under food substitution.

Almond extract (I recommend strongly), fruit juice, or vanilla.
