What are some lightweight, dependable laptops for under $1200?
I am entering law school in the fall and I need a new laptop. I am looking for a lightweight, fast, dependable laptop. I last had the HP Pavilion and it gave me nothing but trouble. Some good recommendations would really help me because I do not know where to start.

There are many models out there in the market.. So you also had trouble with your HP laptop? Mine spoilt just before i was entering my school -_-
Anyway.. To the point. You can try Fujitsu, Lenovo Thinkpad,... Well i think Sony is not bad but not sure why others says it gives trouble. As for macbook, you wont be buying cause you have a budget of $1200. Macbook cost about $2K+

Sony makes a quality laptop in my opinion. Check out the link below on the model I suggest...
If your looking for fast, ensure you pick one with an Intel® Core® 2 Duo Processor with at least 3 Gigs of RAM.

I wouldn't go with a Macbook or any Apple computer for that matter.
They a just too buggy and unreliable....
My present Crapbook has had the motherboard replaced, 2 failed hard drives, and my battery has just died.
Buying Applecare doesn't gaurantee that you won't have to pay to replace things either!
For all the 'holidays' that I've taken off work to get it fixed, I could have had a nice vacation in Europe with my family.

I was going to suggest HP but I'm sure that's not appealing after the problems with your last one. I'd have to disagree with suggesting Sony. I know a couple people who have Sony and have had nothing but problems. Maybe look into a Mac.

How about a Macbook white, I think its price would normally start at $999. Plus it has 2.0GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor with 3MB on-chip shared L2 cache running 1:1 with processor speed and 120GB 5400-rpm SATA hard disk drive. It also has 13.3-inch (diagonal) glossy widescreen TFT display and weighs 5 pounds.

Try buying a Lenovo. From what I hear, they have the best builds and are one of the more reliable laptop companies.
For what you're using it for, the Lenovo Thinkpad would be good for you.
Or if you're comfortable with OS X, definitely try to go with that. :)

go to dell.com and type in configurable laptop. You can choose all the features you want to add before they ship. For $1200 you can get a really nice laptop.
