Does the audio from the HDMI audio still work when it is converted to DVI through an adapter or a dvi/hdmi?

"Does the audio from the HDMI audio still work when it is converted to DVI through an adapter or a dvi/hdmi cable"

Basically what I mean is,

I have a 2002 65'' 720p HDTV that doesn't use HDMI, it was made before all the TV manufacturers switched from DVI to HDMI. I bought a hdmi to DVI Male-Male cable so that when I plug the HDMI side of the cable into my blu-ray player to the female DVI connector on the HDTV. I also have a couple short HDMI to DVI [female-male] adapters (the ones that come with video cards). Will the HDMI still have both audio and video that DVI doesn't have, or will the conversion to DVI get rid of the audio. I use digital coaxial audio for my blu-ray player anyways.

And just for the heck of it, I'll tell you what I use for my HD DirecTV. I use component for video and optical for audio.

I don't know whether or not coaxial or optical are better than the other, but I use coaxial for my bd player and optical for dtv, because the DTV doesn't have a connector for coaxial.

My BD player has connectors for coax and optical.

Any info would help

Thanks,

Sam

No, you have to use optical or coaxial cable for audio.

With a few in-expensive audio cables, you should be able to do this: From the media center manual: Using additional sound cables If you plan to connect the PC audio to an amplifier or a TV, you may need additional sound cables that are not included with your PC. Your PC is able to output sound in several modes. Your PC has 3.5 mm female stereo headphone jacks for most outputs. Many amplifiers have RCA inputs. You need one 3.5 mm male-to-RCA stereo cable for stereo sound. You need three 3.5 mm male-to-RCA cables for surround sound. Check the documentation that came with your audio equipment for the best input method. and from the tv's manual: Connect a set of audio cables between the AUDIO IN (1 or 2) jacks on the TV and the AUDIO output jacks on the VCR or PC.

No. DVI is Digital Video Interface and only carries a video signal. You have to run separate audio cables.

No, DVI only transfers video so once it enters the equation, audio is lost.

As for optical vs. coax, there is no difference. They transfer the same (digital) data and will give the same results.
