I have been looking into Cross-Cultural Solutions. It has Volunteer abroad, intern abroad, and insight abroad programs from 1-12 weeks, and the prices start around $1700 but it says on the website that they are tax deductable and they offer financial aid to some people. The "Peace Corps" used to be the way to go. You might check with some local churches to see if they sponser "mission trips" overseas.
