Perception has nothing to do with it. All caps has just evolved as a de facto audio cue for saying something loudly in online text since the usual audio cues are missing. So ... most people understand all caps to mean shouting. Of course, you may have your own private perception of what all caps should really mean but it would not be useful since you would then be out of sync with everyone else. To illustrate, suppose you feel that the word "idiot" refers to a person of great virtue, and suppose you went with that and complimented someone else with that term, surely you would not expect a warm reception with that since "idiot" is not commonly understood to be a complimentary word. So understanding the de facto conventions and definitions in discourse is important.

Yes, its a well known fact that typing using all capital letters is perceived as "shouting" and therefore a little rude in polite conversation. If someone does it on here it usually gets pointed out to them fairly quickly. Didn't know Yahoo pointed it out too?

I usually put on caps lock when I want people to take attention at my message or even show which WORDS im stressing on

yeah sometimes but sometimes when im typing since the letter "a" i next to it some times i ll accidentally touch the caps and yeah ill be too lazy to change it

I didn't until I read somebody else's comments one day. But I have another look at it. For those of us who can't read small print very well because we have poor or bad eyesight, all caps are a lifesaver to us.

Yes it's considered shouting. I think we all have done it and then have to go back and change it. I just done it a minute ago and changed it back before I sent it.

hahaha people are wayyy too sensitive. I never perceived it as shouting. I always type with caps and then people starting freaking out....seriously, people take online stuff too serious.
