Okay, here's the thing. You need to be yourself. There is no need for any "material" because once you two talk in person, he is going to wonder where if the comedic girl on IM even exists in real life. Do you know what I mean?

With IM/TEXT ... it's extremely difficult to have a really good conversation with someone... the reason I say this is because you can't see their facial expressions or how they say certain words. Sometimes you can think something sounds a certain way but they don't really mean it like that.

I think it's always better to talk in person. BUT, when talking in IM or TEXT or whatever form of communication you use... just be yourself, that way there are no surprises. He doesn't seem to be really talkative, so just try to talk to him about his life.. his day.. school... work (if this applies) his family... anything, get to know him better. If he is still stand-off-ish then you shouldn't even waste your time. Find a guy who cares to listen and have a good conversation with you =)

He says he likes your friend, so just ignore him. Guys always want what they can't have.. they don't want a girl who will openly pursue them.. they get bored of that. Become unavailable to him, wait until HE IM's you or TEXT you.... wait for HIM to come to you. And when he does, just be yourself.. that's all you need to be.

Think of what you would say to someone, like another friend, face-to-face. Ask him how is day was, or how a certain class was today. Ask him if he heard about something that happened at school... that kind of thing.

The short conversations, well, it's not that he's bored. He's a guy, and that's probably just it. Guys don't say long things, really.

Ask him things about life, school, future, past, etc. Try staying on topics more and more and try to make jokes out of it! This will make him realize how great of a listener you are and that you're not boring. Good Luck!

Find out what he likes to do. Is he into music/sports/movies?? See if you have any shared interests. Get to know him. Ask him questions. Above all, don't be shy. At your age this will be good practice to sharpen your social skills. All the best

Try to change your answers a bit, and exaggerate whats happening to you, even if it's nothing - instead of 'nothing much' you could say 'lots of nothing', but it's better to make something up, e.g. 'my cat is farting on me but i am enjoying it' or anything really... 'my moms trying to throw out my old stuffed elephant, i'm heartbroken' - the key is to exaggerate your honesty. (Just one idea.)

text a random fact

say somethng like, do you know the muffin man?

or something interesting that just happened,

or text him something like

"do you know the plan"

if he doesn't make up something random like, it involves me, you, some cheese, a hamster named percy and a large chicken suit,

play 20 questions... its really fun just ask random questions.. its a great get to know you gamr.. it doesnt have to be just yes or no question .. it could be like whats your fave thing to do?.. haha.. idk its lots of fun tho. :D
