What's with Liverpool Keeper's and wearing caps?

Goalkeepers have always had the priviliedge of being able to wearing full length bottoms and caps but both of these have become out-dated and old fashioned. You rarely see keepers do this anymore.

I was watching match of the day this weekend and I noticed former Liverpool Keeper's Scott Carson and Chris Kirkland both had caps. Is this something to do with Liverpool's Academy or something???

It's to shield their eyes from the sun. They wear caps because they'd look silly wearing shades.

Yeah, it's that old "sun in the eyes problem". Gomes of Tottenham was moaning about it the other day because he forgot to take a cap on the pitch and it was sunny. Perhaps somebody should tell him that he would still be crap if he was wearing ten caps on his head.....
