vista laptop doesn't see DVD/CD drive?
ok, so my dv6646us HP laptop has stoop recognizing my dvd/cd reader, I've had this problem before, which http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929461 helped me solve, except this time, those UPPERFILTER and LOWERFILTER files AREN"T THERE! so does anyone know how to fix this?

In this case your registry is probably to severely corrupted to do anything except a re-installation of windows. This is a software issue so the drive should be detected in the bios and you should be able to boot from a CD if you don't have what most manufacturer's call a "recovery partition".
In any case save anything that's important to you and then reinstall from the recovery partition or call HP support for recovery disks, etc.
