Haydn Erdődy quartets - pronunciation?
I was listening to Haydn's String Quartets Op. 76 (the Erdődy quartets) and I realised I wasn't sure how to pronounce 'Erdődy'. I have a feeling it's something like AIR-did- she, but I'm not certain. Can any Hungarian speakers help?

English doesn't have the middle vowel, so this is by necessity a very rough guide: \ER-de(r)-dee\, with \E\ like in 'met' or 'bell', \ee\ like in 'see' (but shorter in duration, if you can manage it), and \e(r)\ indicating that the closest English gets to this sound is the vowel in words like 'berm' or 'girl'. It's the same sound as German o-umlaut, and it should be longish in duration. The capital letters indicate that the stress is on the first syllable, as always in Hungarian. (Yes, I know, English speakers find it difficult to separate vowel duration from syllable stress. It is possible.)

It's AIR-dehr-di. Stress on the first syllable (as always in Hungarian) and a long 'ehr' in the middle.
