You could remove the palmrest/front cover and try cleaning the affected parts with alcohol. And if the water was spilled recently, the touchpad might dry out. If the PC is under warranty Dell will fix it, if not, you can order the palmrest and touchpad assembly from Ebay for $20.00 - $50.00. Some are used and some are brand new. Make sure you get the exact part number when you order.

To disassemble the laptop, follow the instructions from Dell. Make sure and remove the battery before disassembling. Replacing the touchpad is not that hard, just work slowly and carefully, laptops are delicate inside. Remember, if it won't come loose, you probably missed a screw some where.

if water got on it your best bet is to take it all apart and dry it all out real good, but you prob already did the damage by now. You may have fried something. I would recommend getting an usb touch pad unless your willing to pay an arm and a leg to get it replaced.

Happened to my brother, if you have had under a year or bought an extended warranty they will come and replace/fix the problem for free. (His case they came to his house and replaced the whole top cover of his laptop for no charge) Best of Luck
