Dependant upon your experience you could try a booking system for a restraunt/airline? Say, list the tables and book them according to time slots, activate an alarm when a customers table is still in use when a reservation is due to show up, things like that.
I would personally start learning to use sockets (winsocks) as network programming is alot more adventurous and opens alot more doors for ideas

One of my first projects I made after programming 1 was a little web browser that used the internet explorer trident engine. It wasn't time consuming or difficult just kinda neat.
