How can I defend this argument for a moderate standpoint on abortion?
The opposing person says as follows: "Moderate views are inherently arbitrary. They postulate a date, or condition before which abortion is morally permissible and after which it is morally impermissible. The charge is that the date or condition chosen is arbitrary."
How do I defend myself now? PLEASE DON'T COMMENT IF YOU HAVE NOTHING NICE TO SAY, THIS IS FOR A PHILOSOPHY PAPER AND I NEED HELP.
thanks everyone for helping me out, all your answers helped me.

Read the Supreme Court's decision in Roe v. Wade. In that case, in some respects, the Court did select an "arbitrary" date, before which abortion was permissible However, that date was largely selected on the basis of when the fetus would be viable, that is be able to sustain life outside the womb. So, you need to show that the date/condition is not arbitrary, that there are specific reasons why that date/condition was selected as the dividing line between when abortion is permissible, and when it is not.

Radical views are inherently ignorant, as they are forcibly negating a potentially valid, albeit opposing belief.
Quantifying a specific date or condition is far less arbitrary than standing on a generic, infinite belief system under which an individual cannot quantify anything at all. Furthermore, moderate views need not suggest any point of moral reference; on the contrary, their structure consists of the more rational, factual aspects of both the liberal and conservative viewpoints.
The charge is that the date or condition chosen is arbitrary, but it's not. Combine -5 and +5 and the average is 0. RUN WITH IT YOU WILL GET AN A UR WELCOM! LOL

What's wrong with being arbitrary? Sure, it's not black and white, but this isn't a black and white issue if you're a moderate.
Even a politician like McCain is in favor of allowing a rape victim to abort her rapist's embryo, and allowing a woman to get an abortion when her life or fertility is threatened by continuing the pregnancy. This could be taking as a moderate view, since there are circumstances where an abortion is acceptable.

Abortion laws were set in place by making it a privacy issue.
The argument listed sports a slew of unnecessary three-dollar words, indicating a weak foundation. It further pushes that only black and white logic exists here, when there are numerous gray areas. Rape cases are an example where the moderate view joins many pro-lifers with pro-choice parties.
I am moderate because I would not choose to get an abortion. However, I am not prepared to make such a choice for all others.

The argument is a mute answer.that is supposed to make the argument about abortion agreeable..a compromise if you will...
Some believe that abortion wrong at any stage because the reproduction process has started..others believe it's just a blob of nothing that can be discarded.
So the choice or decision what is right or wrong is based on belief and what the final outcome will be if the child is permitted to live or the blob is discarded.
Personally I believe conception is the beginning of life..just as those that believe an egg of an endangered species is valuable.
