AIG and Madoff? Similarities...?

Do you think that there is much difference between the two? One single handedly lied to investers to trust his decision making and the other single handedly lied to the government and tax payers to give them billions of dollars for what, bonuses?

We don't know yet exactly what Madoff did. Assuming he actually invested the money and then lost it - then there are very similiar. Both took too much risk on their investments. Madoff lied to his investors, while AIG showed the losses - they were just too high.

As for the bonusses - most seem to be appropriate - money due from sales of insurance. Some seem bad - paid to people no longer at the company. Overall, its a pretty small part of the bailout.
