How good is our educational system?

This is a joke but I know people who would use this as an argument.

WND JOKE OF THE DAY

What makes 'natural born' better?

College student challenges 'constitutional requirement'

In a Seattle, Wash., college classroom, students

were discussing the qualifications to be president of the United States. It was pretty simple - the candidate must be a natural born citizen of at least 35 years age.

However, one girl in the class immediately started in on how unfair was the requirement to be a natural born citizen.

In short, her opinion was that this requirement prevented many capable individuals from becoming president.

The class was taking it in and letting her rant, but everyone's jaw hit the floor when she wrapped up her argument by stating, "What makes a natural born citizen any more qualified to lead this country than one born by C Section?"

Do you have an opinion?

Update:

I would say that in most cases 18 is too young to vote, simply because of lack of knowledge and understanding. But if the child is raised to understand and does their own homework, they don't go by the hype of the parties.

Update 2:

Tomassina, I am often accused of being a college graduate and more. This happens, even in today's world. My lawyer has even said that I know as much about the law as he does, and I have never been inside a college. I graduated h/s in 1960.

Update 3:

To those who believe school is what you make of it, you must remember, the first few years of any education sets the trend for advanced education. If you are allowed to just slip through the cracks or passed on to the next level without being capable of the work, as in the 'No child left behind', the child will never have a chance.

Update 4:

Dang, Jeeper, I thought everyone knew Korea was in Africa(lol).

Update 5:

Barney, Nothing was said about O 'baa' ma.And, he may be your choice but not mine. As far as I'm concerned, we have no president!

Not until he proves it with the proper certificates.

Update 6:

Good one Levon!

I used to be married to that one, I think!

Update 7:

You are on target, Donald, and we also elected one of these draft dodgers as president, Slick Willie Clinton, and now we have his old woman as S.o.S.

Update 8:

Yuha, I often joke when asked where I got my degree. I tell them, I'm a Roads scholar. They think I mean "Rhoades", then I say, "I studied on U.S. 40, 50, 71, I 35, I 70, and I 20."

The funny thing is that is where I got my education, coast to coast and border to border, and around the world.

Update 9:

Scope and Travis, your comments are well grounded as is seen in many ways. Even Leno showcases this in his 'Jay walking' segments. It is very apparent in much of the media and in the sports world. Education should over ride the need for a winning football team.

Update 10:

V, I noticed this many years ago as I was trying to make a living. Fellow workers from Europe seemed to far out do most of the local people in developing better and faster ways of doing the same job. Many accused me of being a foreigner because I could improve the systems.

Update 11:

Blue, I have noticed, there are a few instances which people pay attention, one is when sex is mentioned. When I was managing, to get total attention from my people I shouted, "Naked woman on the floor!"

Everyone looked and paid attention.

It does indeed show just how poorly educated our "children" are. And consequently how poorly educated our "adults" are who are mistakenly given the "right" to vote.

Too bad there isn't a minimum constitutional requirement for voting qualifications also. Age 18 just doesn't cut it.

The only and most important suggestion is to expand it and make it inclusive first. Once assured that most of the children are actually GETTING an education at all, can we then debate on sophisticated issues of methodology. I personally dont feel there is much wrong with the educational system apart from that. Those who receive good education, are not too different from students anywhere else in the world. We have some of the best colleges and institutions that produce world-class medical practitioners and engineers. The only difference is that most people cannot take liberty with their choices by venturing casually into other fields like in the western countries. The reason for this is a lack of supporting economic infrastructure, and not the educational system. If the Indian market improves for alternative fields then so would the social perception for these professions. Then students would start going into these fields as well. A student while at the crossroads of a career choice is usually confused, but not stupid. Everyone needs bread at the end of the day. So first, educate everyone who are presently lying in the trenches of neglect. Its a gargantuan task and if some generation manages to accomplish that... the finer problems of methodologies can be sorted out by the seeds of our effort (ie the new gen of educated ppl).

Republicans constitute roughly 2/3rds of the military.

These people generally study business or history, or other subjects that generally are more useful in the business and military, rather than educational world.

Democrats are generally artsies and medical types.

While the medical types are uswful, many artsy types become the hippies, protesters, and draft-dodgers of their age, running away from nationalism, patriotism and duty.

During Vietnam, a great number of these pathetic people fled to Canada, poisoning our education system, too, since the work they generally found, giving that so many of them were studying education, were in our schools.

Following the Vietnam War, many drifted back to America, taking up jobs in Education again. Others remained in Canada, ensuring that we also lose that bit of patriotism that should be instilled at an early age, in our schools.

As the years wore on, these people became more senior, and began to believe their own lies to justify their cowardice and lack of patriotism. The poison spread. Political Correctness became the rule of the day, while it became almost embarrassing to say in public that you are patriotic.

As this situation further developed, other members of these self-proclaimed "rebels" (really cowards) also saturated the media, with some of these becoming vehement haters of government, the military, duty, and patriotism.

Many of these work for the Washington Post, New York Times, Chicago Tribune, and LA Times.

Others went into TV and magazines. "Hanoi Jane" Fonda's husband, Ted Turner, owned Time Magazine and CNN, ensuring these media sources would retain their criminal bias.

Education continued deteriorating. PC, political cover-ups of historical fact, Holocaust Denial (or more commonly, simply not being taught), and liberal studies became more important.

We now have university students who can't even remember basic geography, 20th Century history, or basic political ideologies and their results.

The average student has no idea how bad Socialism is.

This is how we have the most unqualified, incompetent, unsuitable President in History now.... media manipulation to these unknowing, preconditioned masses of deluded youth.

Well, in 1999 a college degree was the equivalent of a 1955 high school diploma and from this I can only ascertain that it has gotten worse. The national IQ has dropped from 115 to 95.

At least we have some bright kids being home schooled and in private schools.

But what else could you expect when education is the easiest college major that there is and the govt runs education.

Overall it is very poor. Not being a factor of higher education, I like

yourself went to the Military, after HS, and went to night school

for over 8 years to get my Criminal Science degree, It was a different

time back then. We actually had teachers in those days. Who

actually taught, did there own lesson plans, and yes had to have

a hard degree in the subject they taught.. Now we have by products

of liberal and socialist leanings who have unions as there security

blankets as opposed to having to have ability and the wanting to

    teach,

I am a advocate of Charter Schools.think they ought to tank the

public school system and slice and dice the damn teachers

union. Put the liberal socialist out of work and on the street

where they belong. Only employ teachers that excell and want

to be in the class room. Not have to cow tow to some albatross

that is just hanging on because they can't hack anywhere else.

  • Wow, our free enterprise system really is the only thing that we've got going for us. Without it, people from other countries that do get good educations and don't take freedom for granted, wouldn't come here, and that highest standard of living record wouldn't even stand a chance.

LOL! Hey I know that girl. She went fishing and here's what happened...

A blonde wanted to go ice fishing.

She'd seen many books on the subject,

and finally getting all the necessary tools

together, she made for the ice.

    After positioning her comfy footstool,

she started to make a circular cut in the ice. Suddenly, from the sky, a voice boomed,

'THERE ARE NO FISH UNDER THE ICE'

    Startled, the blonde moved further

down the ice, poured a thermos of

cappuccino, and began to cut yet another

    hole.

Again from the heavens the voice bellowed,

'THERE ARE NO FISH UNDER THE ICE.'

The blonde, now worried, moved away,

clear down to the opposite end of the ice.

She set up her stool once more and

tried again to cut a hole.

    The voice came once more,

'THERE ARE NO FISH UNDER THE ICE.'

She stopped, looked skyward, and said,

' IS THAT YOU LORD? '

    The voice replied,

' NO, THIS IS THE MANAGER OF

    THE HOCKEY RINK.'

Politics aside, our education system is ATROCIOUS.

It creates automatons, incapable of actual reason and logic.

The truly educated are for the most part self-educated.

College as well-often fails in truly educating people.

  • Why countries keep sending us their best and brightest is

beyond me. These foreign students come over and see some of the air-heads that got into American colleges. Especially after they see their class-mates drunk every weekend or drunk during the week. They see all the casual sex and all the pointless demonstrations that go on at the "prestigous" universities. The behavior that goes on makes me wonder why they stay instead of transferring to Great Britain or Europe. They must wonder how we are still on top of the political food chain.

HAHAHAHAHA!! hilarious! This truly highlights the lack of important education in America. Sure, most students can do quadratic equations with ease, but try getting them to understand the basics of linguistics and you've got a challenge on your hands!
