Does anybody know how to shape bamboo?

It's not for me, but for my godmother. Her daugther's getting married this saturday and she wants to do two arcs...I guess archways I don't know how to say it, in bamboo. We have the bamboo, but how do we shape it? Some people have said boiling water, others salt and steam?

Anyone can give me definite, accurate instructions please?

Having been to Japan, I have to say Bamboo is a very linear element. If you want an arc they can be purchased at garden centers in redwood. The only way I see this working is if you use bundles of very thin live bamboo cut and tied over a wire arch frame...certainly a labor of love if there ever was one.
