    New york city.

(considered a humid subtropical climate by some maps)

Mildish temperatures most year, but the occasional cold week in january or febuary can be brutal ( with only 20s in the day and as low as 10 on the coldest nights). Snow is not uncommon especially with all the precipitation the city gets, but the city rarely gets an all snow event because of the moderaton the water temperatures give the city. also the city has been known to get mid winter warmups where temperatures can be as high as the upper 60s in early january, and even a rare 70 in febuary if your lucky.

Around this time of the year (Late march) the weather warms up with temperatures in the 50s during the day (with the occasional 60 and a rare 70) and low 40s at night. May means 70s and 80s in late May. Not uncommon to see some 90s in late May.

June is in the 80s, with temperatures in late june around 85 degrees and HUMID. the rest of the summer is in the high 80s and low 90s and the humidity can be depressing. Night temperatures are confortable and on the warm side with temperatures in the low 70s. If you are expecting a hurricane the best chance of getting one would be in september. A major hurricane would be devistating because a good portion of NYC is only 10 feet above sea level. In 1938 this happened. Happens on average every 70-100 years. Small but damaging hurricanes can occur as often as 5 to 10 years with bertha hitting the area in 1996 bringing downpours and winds in the 40-60 mph range. Hurricane gloria was strong enough to close many suspension bridges because of how hig above the water they are. Winds were up to 80 mph causing downed trees, poweroutages, but only 5 foot waves and only 3 inches of rain beacause of the speed. Dont worry about hurricanes too much though becuase usually they only get remments of what hit fthe gulf and southeastern states.

fall in the city is very mild with temperatures still in the low 70s in early october and the cities first freeze in early november. early winter is not as severe as late winter becuase water temperatures are still very mild and in the 50s. 50s in november is not uncommon, and all snow is rare, but as mentioned above not impossible. Their have been extreme snow storms that put the city to a stand still dumping 2 feet of snow. 4 inches of snow can cause travel problems beacuse it does not come as often as ice and snow at the same time.

    UPSTATE NY

    WINTER

Cool, but cold in northern and high areas. temperatures on an average december day is in the 30s and at night in the 20s and teens. Subzero temperatures is considered cold, but happens at least once a year. Snow is common and most of it is very powdery making for great sking, but some years are better than others. Snow storms can dump as much as 40 inches in some areas and more ion the northern regions. The cities surrounding the great leakes get DUMPED in snow called lake effect snow, but temperatures here are a bit mider than UPSTATE NY, but still much cooler compared to NYC and its surrounding areas.

    SPRING

now in late march temepratures are in the low to upper 40s, with warm days bringing temperatures in the 50s, and occasionally even the 60s. May bring temperatures in the 60s and 70s with northern portions and high mountains in the 50s.

    Summer

june can start out cool and temperatures in the 60s in northern regions of uptate ny and temperatures in the 70s and low 80s else where. 90s are not uncommon, but usually would occur in mid summer if at all. July is lin the low 80s making for mild summers, but usually not oppresive heat like down south. Hurricanes here are not really able to make it here, but its moisture is, and some hurricane remenants can bring wind gusts as high as 50 mph or more.

    FALL

september will mean 70s and 60s. In VERY northern portions late september can bring a light snow, but all of upstate ny is known for AMAZING fall leaf colors as well as most of New England. october is cool with temperatures in the 60s but more commonly 40s. Frost will come in late september to early october in most of Upstate, but downstate, in areas just north of NYC you can experience mild temperatures although not as mild as coastal areas. november means days in the 40s and 30s and nights in the 20s. snow can definately happen in mid november accrose most of upstate NY

    good luck

the more natural the fiber the better, think wool. Poly will make you sweat, then you'll freeze for sure! Layers are great also A heavy leather with lining and a turtle neck with a sweater! Don't forget head coverings, scarf, and gloves..warm socks and boots are nice to have as well! Especially if you plan on sight seeing! Have fun
