  • The scariest book would be 'IT.

the book was so unbelievably scary, it defies description and

"The Shining" by Stephen King. The book tells the story of the Torrances, a young family that moves into the spooky old Overlook resort hotel as winter caretakers. Jack Torrance is a writer; he plans on taking advantage of winter's solitude to work on his novel. His son, Danny, has "the shine": psychic abilities with which he can see the hotel's horrific past.

As the snow piles up and their isolation grows, the Torrances start to fall apart. Danny is frightened by his visions of the hotel's past, while his father disintegrates in a stew of alcoholism and his own history -- the memories of an abusive father.According to King, "The Shining" was written in a white heat of inspiration. His family had stayed at a Colorado hotel, the Stanley, and King got the idea while awake late one night.

Its scariest scene may be the moment when Duvall examines the book that Nicholson has been working on for several months, and sees just what he has written ...

rapid notice, it is StePHen King. The long walk, 6 considered necessary issues, 7 The Gunslinger, 4 The Stand, 8 Desperation, 6 Insomnia, 7 i don't get scared person-friendly, so I raised each and every ones factors via 2 to even it out.

ooh, i love his books... but i haven't had much time to read them. i've only read 3 so far: The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon, REDRUM (not sure if that's the title of the book though), and The Green Mile. I liked all of them... in particular the 1st and the 3rd one. But the 2nd one was the most scary.

now you've convinced me to read Desperation this summer! xD

edit: after reading the answers, i realized the name of the 2nd book was The Shining. =]

I thought Bag of Bones was decently scarey...

I loved Thinner and Dead Zone, but I don't think they are scarey, just interesting.

    The Shining.

It's been years and I still can't turn my back of a piece of topiary.

I think the uncritical praise for Stephen Dung... er, King is scary.

He is grossly overrated: he is boring, sleazy and trashy, and some of his works like Grandma, Night Shift and Dream catchers are in the sewer level. Sorry, thumbdowners, I prefer roses over filth.
