Whats the difference between a Shia and a Sunni?
I know the main differences but all answers are welcome. I also heard that Shia pray by putting some kind of a tablet underneath the prayer rug and hold a picture of Ali (RTA) above their head???

To add to some of the differences others have mentioned...
Shias say Labayka Ya Hussein (Ra)...Labayka ya Hassan (Ra)....and basically any human or God's Creation. They even say Labayka Ya NasrAllah (and I respect NasrAllah as a political leader, he has done many great things for Lebanon, but that word should not be said for just ANYONE).
However us Sunnis only say Labayk for Allah SWT because we are His slaves, and only answer to his call...not to any other man.
Labayk Allahuma Labayk
Labayk La Shareeka Laka Labayk
Inna Al Hamda Wa Ni'mata laka

I doubt that the Shi'aah put a picture of 'Ali radiallaahu 'an up there as it is haraam to do so, but the difference between the two:
>>Differences between Sunnis and Shi'aah<<
The main difference which caused the drama is this:
Shi'ah believe that Muhammad's descendants should be the one to establish khaliphat, this first person is 'Ali radiallaahu 'an. However, Sunnis believe that it is established by the people and even the Prophet sallallaahu 'alayhi wasalam himself to pick the khaliph. For this reason, Shi'ah reject the first three khaliphs: Abu Bakr, 'Uthmaan, and 'Umar. They say 'Ali was the only one.
Other differences between the two:

Basically their ideology of Immamat which has no base in islam.
Edit
Sunni (muslim)believes their last prophet was Mohammad (saw) innspired by God .After him there is non who can hold this position .So our last imam in this sense is only and only
MOHAMMAD (saw)
So we just follow Quran And Hadith ( saying & actions of Mohammad
But shias believe that After Mohammad (saw) there are twelve Imams
who r better than Prophets ,inspired by Allah and they r infallible .
So they hold the position to interpret Quran & Hadith,
This concept of imamat of Shias is the root cause of the all deviations
Bcoz their imam can interpret what ever they want ,they can give any interpretation of Quran ,
****WHICH CAN CHANGE THE WHOLE RELIGION***
They believe thre should be an imam for all the ages
Their r 12 imams in total
Last 12th imam since the age of five year ,is in a occultation. up til now
but he has a contact with their special person in special way
they have their written communication with them
Transfer of letters takes place
following is taken by shias site so it is authentic
THE TRADITION OF WRITING LETTERS TO IMAM-E ZAMAN (as)
Up to the end of the lesser occultation, the followers and the devotees used to communicate with the Twelfth Imam (as) through his safer (emissary). However, from the time of the death of his last safir, the tradition of written communications with the Imam has continued to this day, and there are believers who testify that they still get replies from him in some unusual ways
note it down,
"the tradition of written communications with the Imam has continued to this day,"
So their main source of knowledge is their Imam Zaman
(imam of present time)

The belief of Ahl al-Sunnah wa’l-Jamaa’ah is Tawheed or the oneness of Allaah and devoting worship sincerely to Allaah alone, and that no one can be called upon alongside Him, no angel who is close to Him and no Prophet who was sent, and Allaah is the only one who knows the unseen.
It is part of the belief of Ahl al-Sunnah to love the Sahaabah (may Allaah be pleased with them all) and to be pleased with them, and to believe that they are the best of Allaah's creation after the Prophets, and that the best of them are Abu Bakr, then ‘Umar, then ‘Uthmaan, then ‘Ali (may Allaah be pleased with them all).
The Raafidis are the opposite of that, so it is not possible to reconcile between them, just as it is not possible to reconcile between the Jews, Christians and idolaters and Ahl al-Sunnah.

See: “A College Student’s Paper on the Shee’ah”

_______________________
The beliefs[15] of the Raafidah Shee’ah greatly differ from the beliefs of those people who adhere to the Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad peace be upon him. Such as the concept of “Imaamah”, which states that Allaah has chosen 12 Imaams from the family of the Prophet peace be upon him to rule the Muslims. The attributes of these Imaams as given to them by the Shee’ah is that they are infallible and have knowledge of the unseen and know the so-called ‘true meaning’ of the Quraan.
Some of the Raafidah Shee’ah, such as Ayatollah Khomeni, hold the belief that the Quraan has been distorted by the companions of Muhammad peace be upon him. Amongst the unified belief of the Raafidah Shee’ah we find a severe hatred for the companions of the Prophet Muhammad peace be upon him. (These beliefs were taken from the Shee’ah books: Usool al-Kaafee of al-Kulaynee volume 1; 148, Jila al-Ayoun Volume 2: 66, Kashful Asraar, pg. 107 of Khomeini)
The Prophet peace be upon him also clearly warned against insulting and belittling his companions when he said[16],
“Whoever insults my companions, the curse of Allaah, the angels and all of mankind will be upon him.” (al-Silsilah al-Saheehah, 2340)
The scholar of the past, al-Khateeb al-Baghdaadee said[17]:
“If you see a man defaming any of the Companions of Allaah’s Messenger then know that he is a heretic, because we believe in the Messenger of Allaah and in the Quraan as being true. It is the Companions who have conveyed this Quraan and the Prophetic guidance to us. Yet they seek to criticize our witnesses (to the Revelation) so as to nullify the Book and the Sunnah. They are more deserving to be refuted and they are the heretics.” (al-Kifaayah pg. 49)
The Raafidah Shee’ah has with them a concept known as “Taqiyyah” which is religious lying. So many of them will not say the truth when they speak, but rather they are told to lie to others concerning their religion. This is reported in many of the books of the shee’ah that they consider authentic.
The scholars of the Sunnah stated that the Raafidah Shee’ah who believe in the concept of Imaamah are not considered Muslim and therefore the ruling upon them is that they are to be refuted and avoided.
Imaam as-Sam’aanee said about them:
“And the Muslim Nation has consensus on the disbelief of the Imaamiyyah (raafidah shee’ah)”[18] (Al-Insaab 6/341)
Imaam al-Bukhaaree said,
“I do not give any consideration to prayer behind the Jahmee[19] and the Raafidhee, nor praying behind a Jew or Christian. They are not to be greeted, nor are they to be visited, nor are they to be married, nor is their testimony accepted, nor are their sacrificed meat to be eaten.”[20]
(Khalq Af’aal al-’Ibaad 125)
Al-Bukhaaree reported from ibn Mahdee that he said,
“They are two separate religions, the Jahmiyyah and the Raafidhiyyah“( Khalq Af’aal al-’Ibaad 125)[21]
Imaam ash-Shaafi’ee amongst other scholars stated that the Sunni should not narrate from the Raafidhah Shee’ah as they are amongst the liars.
Mu’mal Ibn Ihaab said: I heard Yazeed Bin Haaroon saying, “The narrations of every person of innovation can be written as long as he is not a caller to it, except the Raafidah, since they are liars.“[22] (Minhaaj as-Sunnah (1/59 -62) of Ibn Taymiyyah)
Aboo Haatim ar-Raazee said, “I heard Yoonus bin ‘Abd al-A’laa saying: Ashhaab bin ‘Abdul’Azeez asked Maalik about the Raafidah, so he said, “Do not speak to them and do not narrate from them, since they lie. And Aboo Haatim said, “Harmalah related to us saying: I heard ash-Shaafi’ee saying, “I have not seen anyone testifying for more evil than the Raafidah.”[23] (Minhaaj as-Sunnah (1/69) of Ibn Taymiyyah)
The reasons that the Shee’ah and the Sunni are in conflict is due mainly to the vast differences in religion. The Shee’ah have an extreme hatred for those who refute their innovations and the Sunnis have a hatred for those who innovate and commit disbelief in the religion of Islaam. Much of this conflict is manifesting itself in places like Iraq and Afghanistan where the Shee’ah have recently risen to power. The Shee’ah Northern Alliance in Afghanistan and the Shee’ah Hizbollah in Lebanon and the Shee’ah in Iran and the Shee’ah in Syria and Bahrain and now in Iraq have a severe enmity to the people of the Sunnah. Such is the examples of the Shee’ah who kill the people with “Sunni” names such as Abu Bakr or Umar in Iraq. Much of the violence stems from the violent beliefs in the Shee’ah doctrine concerning the torture and killing of the Sunnis.
The Shee’ah, at-Toosee reported in his book Tahzeeb al-Ahkaam, Volume 2: 116:”The wealth, the property and everything that belongs to the Sunni is actually yours” He also narrated on the same page: “Snatch the possessions of a Sunni wherever you find

two wrongs don't make a right...
so please stop it people, making false accusations.... you are only getting sayea'at (bad deeds) out of this, nothing more.
sunnis: who are you to judge shias?
shias: who are you to judge sunnis?
only Allah (swt) judges...
