1997 Mercruiser alpha 1 losing drive oil?
have a 1997 Bayliner 2050 with a alpha 1 outdrive it is losing drive oil.
But cant find a leak all the bellows and carrier bearing replace 2 years ago.
It not leaking out the drive and i cant see any oil in the bilge.
But it is difintly losing drive oil about a pint for every 4 hours of use.
I heard a alarm buzzer last year and found the resoivor low and added more twice.
Any ideas?

That could be a couple of things. First off the bellows might be full of gearlube from the upper seal leaking. If thats the case you should fix it right away so the lube doesnt damage the bellows. Also sometimes when the drive has the impeller changed, the little o-ring that meets the fluid passage between the two cases pinches or falls out and that would cause a leak. The last most common is the seal behind the prop. when your under way the oil can get sucked right out into the water and you wouldnt be able to tell. Pressure testing would be the easiest way to find the leak. Before you do any of that, check the drain and fill plugs and gaskets to make sure they are tight and not leaking. Hope this helps.

Do a pressure test, I'll bet it is the driveshaft seal, under the waterpump.
