In 1947 the snow lasted for over 6 months, and the temperature was below freezing for over 3 weeks.

I'm in the UK, and even the winters of 1969, 1981, 1992, 2005 were much worse than this one.

It sounds like a good idea to do your shopping now, busy or not busy. You might not feel like going out in the cold right now. But come tomorrow you won't have much of a choice. You might be stuck in the house with limited amount of groceries and for how long you don't know. While you are at the store.... stock up on frozen and canned food, cleaning supplies, and toiletries. From the way it sounds you could be house bound for a long time.

yah, it snowed a bout a foot on my freaking birthday and then the following day we got evacuated due to flooding.
