Fitting a Bathroom Carpet?

This is the problem. Wish to lay a carpet in the bathroom. But i cannot put carpet under the toilet because the screws that hold it in place will not move have tried all day with no luck. So the only way is to cut the carpet to fit round the toilet. But this is the problem. How can i make a template of the base of the toilet so that i have the right shape to cut out of the carpet. Taking in to consideration. One i'm no expert, Two i don't want to have to spend money on some fancy gadget that i'd only use once. So please idea's using normal things i already have. IE paper pencil and so on. Thanks for any answers.

To start with you do not want the carpet under the toilet. I have layed a lot of carpet. You dont need to make a template at all. This is how a carpet layer would do this.Try and follow me here.

Cut the carpet to fit the size of the bathroom or a couple inches larger.

Then put the carpet against the long strait wall and unroll/ unfold it.

Then cut it to fit the room except the wall where the toilet is.

Now with the carpet lying flat fold back a flap of carpet in front of the toilet, you will be looking at the back of the carpet flap.

Now cut a strait line in the flap all the way to the edge of the carpet. This cut will be about 2 feet long starting at the front of the toilet base,to the edge of the carpet.

Now lay the flap down ( around ) the toilet.

Now make slits in the carpet all around the toilet and you will find the carpet starting to form around the toilet base.

Now you just very closely cut off all the little flaps around the base of toilet. to just meet the toilet base.

Behind the toilet the flaps will meet perfectly from when you made the first long cut in the flap.

Use a new sharp blade in your utility knife to this. a dull blade will make it difficult and sloppy.

This also the same method i use to lay vinyl floor in a bath.

It is simply called "cutting it in".

I have done hundreds of houses and baths in my youth and never used a template or ever met another installer that used a template.

I guess if you wanted to make a template you could use this same method to make the template. But i think you are more likely to make a mistake if you use a template.

    Bathroom Carpet

My husband hates cold, slippy tile underfoot in the bathroom and is insisting on having carpet in his new bathroom - I've installed an en suite shower for my use. You can still buy specialist bathroom carpet which is easy to lay (on a wooden subfloor, not on underlay). We had it in our last house, only changing it when we wanted to sell, and it lasted without rotting, staining or smelling for over 20 years. The secret of success is to make sure that the bathroom is well ventilated and to use a well-fitting toilet mat and a bath mat when using the bath, both of which are washed regularly.

not just the English people. A lot of people do especially in cold places helps keep the feet warm when sitting down. They can be cleaned like a regular carpet. Some are special against water or mold. Don't forget about the lice nd mites nd carpet bugs too.

Cut the carpet first in the dimensions of the bathroom leaving a couple of inches extra all the way around.

Then start laying carpet, bump the wall opposite the toilet, and start slicing down in front of toilet, but not all the way to floor, just keep making slits as you go, eventually you will get it.

For crying out loud don't put carpet in the bathroom. It is horribly unhygienic. Vinyl is a much better option here, cheaper and easier to cut and fit too

Well at my home we just re-did all the bathrooms. We decided to go with tile because carpet tends to get mildew and mold under it...(I do not suggest you go with carpet but its your choice). One thing you could do for this situation is hire a handyman who works for cheap or you could also get a razor blade, a marker, scissors, things of that sort to draw out were you want to cut, then make the cut. Honestly its up to you do decide how you are going to make this work. I would highly suggest a handyman though.

Do you have boys in the house? Did you know that you could make a toilet pan 3 metres in diameter and some guy would still p*** on the carpet. Don't put carpet in the bathroom, it will absorb the natural dampness in the room and eventually it will stink.

Source(s): I am male, I know how these things happen!

Its best to lay the carpet and cut it around the base of the toilet base, rather then using a template, you have to be accurate with the template, other wise you will land yourself with a hole not in its proper place.
